Much more a scepter than an axe. Village chiefs, diviners and those close to the court owned them, not slung over the shoulder as Congo herminettes but held in the hands, with the superb engravings visible to all. Probably from the late 19th century and with excellent provenance from a Portuguese auction house whose Angola was one of its colonies. It had never left Portugal before I acquired it.

The Chokwe axe can be sold with the receipt from the Leiloeira Côrte Real house, paper format, at the buyer’s request.
