Description from the seller
Raro Set da Dessert Neorinascimentale - 37 Pezzi - Argentato (Silver-plated) - Decorazioni Mitologiche e Animali Simbolici - Italia/Europa, XX Secolo
Elegant and dramatic dessert flatware and service set, comprising about 37 pieces in finely silver-plated metal. The set stands out for its lavish embossed Neo-Renaissance-style decoration, featuring an incredible variety of figural terminals.
Each piece is a work of art in itself: among the handles you can admire mythological figures, putti, the Capitoline Wolf (Rome origin), the Lion of Saint Mark (Venice), grotesque masks, and heraldic symbols.
The set includes:
11 Dessert/fruit knives: Blades finely incised with floral and scroll motifs.
12 Dessert forks: Varied terminals with historical and mythological figures.
12 Teaspoons: Ideal for tea, coffee, or sorbet.
2 Large Serving Pieces: A rare scissor-spring mechanism for desserts with a grotesque "Mascherone" terminal.
A serving spatula/fork with a singular "bird of prey claw" design, of strong visual impact.
Technical Details:
Style: Neo-Renaissance / Eclectic.
Material: Silver-plated metal.
Conditions: Very good considering age. The pieces show a patina of time that certifies their authenticity. Some pieces exhibit wear to the silvering (shifting toward warm bronze/brass tones), typical of period use, which adds charm and character to the lot. (Please examine the photos for details).
Why buy it:
This set is not only functional, but also serves as a magnificent display item for formal tables or for collectors of vintage objets d’époque. The variety of subjects depicted on the handles makes it a unique “conversation piece.”
