Description from the seller
Elegant Savonarola chair with at the ends of the armrests two knobs with rings, on the seat a cushion in purple velvet that adds more elegance to the piece. Made by Florentine artists in beech wood.
Made in the middle of the 20th century in Italy, specifically in the Tuscan region.
The Savonarola chair is a folding chair, foldable like a book and composed of serpentine curved elements and cross Xs.
The term "Savonarola" derives from the name Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), to whose era the chair of this type would date, still preserved in his cell at the monastery of San Marco in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death.
In good overall condition the chair has recently been treated with termite-proofing.
The item will be shipped with a tracking code.
Note: for all European islands including the Canary Islands, Malta and Cyprus, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Ireland United Kingdom, Singapore and Israel, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden, Greece, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania the shipping cost will be agreed upon at the time of the auction of the lot.
