Description from the seller
Danish Mid-Century pepper and salt mills – solid teak – Danish Modern – 1960s - in the style of Digsmed
Description
This elegant set of pepper and salt mills is a beautiful example of Scandinavian table design from the 1960s. The mills are made of solid teak and showcase the minimalist language of form for which Danish design is renowned worldwide: functional, sculptural and fully focused on the natural character of the material.
The tall cylindrical pepper mill features a slim architectural form with a rounded head and a metal adjustment knob. The smaller salt mill has a traditionally turned baluster shape with a side regulation knob for adjusting the grind. Together they form a harmonious duo that is both practical and aesthetically appealing.
This type of teak mills was widely produced in the 1960s by Danish manufacturers such as Digsmed, a producer known for its high-quality teak kitchen accessories for the international export market. Many pieces were sold without branding, but are recognizable by their distinctive Danish design and construction.
The pepper mill is equipped with a classic steel grinding mechanism, a robust construction that was widely used in Scandinavian mills during the 60s.
The warm teak grain and the subtle patina give this set an authentic vintage look, making them not only functional but also a decorative object in a modern or mid-century interior.
