Description from the seller
Description
Elegant demitasse espresso service consisting of white porcelain cups with mounts and saucers in 800 silver, Italian production from the mid-20th century, circa 1950–1965.
The service stems from the collaboration between the porcelain manufacturer Monopoli and the Italian silversmith A. Bettini, known for producing silver mounts intended for coffee services made for several post-war Italian porcelain manufacturers, including Monopoli and IPA.
The cups are made of high-quality white porcelain, of medium-thin thickness, with a glossy glazed surface and an elegant finish. The upper edge is decorated with a thin silver band perfectly preserved, which harmoniously integrates with the silver mount.
The mounts of the cups are made of finely worked 800 silver, with a relief decoration characterized by ornamental scrolls and stylized floral motifs in a neobaroque taste. The background features a delicate punched finish, creating a refined contrast between glossy and matte surfaces.
The handles feature a double spiral scroll shape, elegant and sculptural, typical of high-quality Italian production of the mid-century period.
The saucers are made of solid 800 silver and feature an incised decoration along the edge consisting of a continuous ornamental frieze with stylized floral and linear motifs, while the center remains polished.
This type of service was intended for salon espresso sets, very common in elegant Italian homes of the mid-20th century, and was generally sold in sets of 6 or 12 cups.
