Description from the seller
Canon Auto Zoom 814 Electronic - Super 8 Camera (70s) - Drive and Zoom Motor Tested - Macro Lens f/1.4
A jewel of analog cinema in excellent mechanical condition!
The legendary Canon Auto Zoom 814 Electronic, one of the most robust and versatile Super 8 cameras ever built. This exemplar has been mechanically tested with outstanding results, making it an ideal piece for both collectors and filmmakers who want to experiment with the original chemical format.
1· Mechanical and Functional Status (Tested without Super 8 film):
- Drive motor: Fully functional. The motor runs clean and steady at all speeds.
- Counters: The meter counter (0-6) works and advances correctly (currently reads '1' after testing). The frame counter (0-50) is also operational.
- Zoom system: The automatic zoom responds perfectly to the top buttons. The manual ring turns smoothly.
- Shooting speeds: Switches correctly between standard speeds and Slow Motion mode.
- Optics: Canon Zoom Lens C-8 7.5-60mm f/1.4 Macro, fungus-free and free of scratches. A luminously bright optic legendary for its sharpness.
2· Aesthetic Details and Technical Notes:
- The body: Retains its original leatherette finish in great condition. Shows slight patination or pre-oxidation marks on the top metal part due to aging (see detailed photos), purely cosmetic and not affecting performance.
- Exposure dial: The manual aperture dial (Open/Close) is stiff, a common trait in these units that would require technical cleaning if you want to use it in advanced manual mode.
- Filter: Includes the original lower screw for daylight filter control.
Why this unit?
Unlike most Super 8 cameras sold "untested", this unit has demonstrated that the drive system and the zoom motor are alive—the two most-critical components. It’s a solid base for any analog cinema project. The systems work; the manual Open/Close dial is stiff, and all functions have been tested, but it WAS NOT tested with Super 8 film.
Professional, protected shipping with tracking number.
