Description from the seller

Pair of patinated bronze sculptures depicting musician putti – 19th century

Charming pair of bronzes with brown patina representing two musician putti (angels) in dynamic, expressive poses. One plays the trumpet while the other strikes a small gong, each holding their instruments with a very lively movement.

The figures rest on square bases decorated with a naturalistic rocky motif, typical of decorative sculpture from the second half of the 19th century. The modelling is fine, with beautiful work on the children’s anatomy, curly hair and expressions.

These sculptures were probably intended for decorative use or to accompany a small mechanism or a clock element (presence of fittings under the base).

Characteristics:
• Subject: musician putti
• Material: patinated bronze
• Era: 19th century
• Height: about 20 cm
• Base: about 8.3 × 8.3 cm
• Weights: about 1.215 kg and 1.551 kg respectively

Condition:
Good overall condition with nice old patina, light signs of use consistent with age.

Elegant decorative pair ideal for a library, an office or a collection of decorative bronzes.
