We propose for sale a splendid teapot (or decorative ewer) from the Victorian era, made in Sheffield Plate (silver over copper) around 1880, signed Thomas Otley & Sons. The piece perfectly embodies the elegance of English silverware from the late nineteenth century. Design and Details: The cylindrical body is enhanced by refined hand engravings with floral motifs and a central neoclassical medallion. It features a corded upper rim and a hinged lid with the original decorative knob. Material: The natural patina of time has created the fascinating “bleeding” effect, allowing the underlying copper core to show through, a distinctive sign of authentic Sheffield Plate. Handle: Equipped with original thermal insulators, typical of objects intended for serving hot beverages to prevent burns. Conditions: Excellent preservation for its era. The original patina has been preserved, giving the piece a unique character. It shows no significant dents.
