Diplomatico / Botucal Single Vintage 2004, a very rare reserve rum from Venezuela

All distillates used are produced in very old copper pot stills, which give this single vintage its exceptional character. After maturing for up to 12 years in select bourbon and single malt casks, the distillates are finished for one year in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks for the perfect finish.
the Diplomatico/ Botucal Single Vintage 2004 presents a very strong and sweet nose with plenty of vanilla. Pronounced notes of chocolate, caramel, and raisins accompany these aromas. Subtle spicy notes of rich coffee, a touch of cinnamon, a hint of tobacco, and a hint of oak emerge. A touch of orange complements the aroma. There is no harshness.

The very intense and sweet taste is characterized by rich aromas of vanilla, chocolate, and raisins, paired with subtle spicy notes of coffee, toasted oak, and cinnamon. A slight hint of pepper peeks through. Even before the finish, the rum unfolds nuances of orange, ripe banana, and a touch of tobacco.

The aftertaste is very long and quite intense, with spicy notes of toasted oak, pepper, cocoa, coffee, tobacco, banana, caramel, and finally, cinnamon.

The rums are distributed under the name Botucal by Destilerias Unidas in some countries, following the loss of a legal dispute in March 2012. The Aldi supermarket chain holds the trademark rights to the brandy "Diplomat" and fears confusion within its sales territory. Therefore, the rums may no longer be sold under the name Diplomatico in the relevant countries. The contents, however, remain unchanged.
