Praktica / Cosina CX-2 compact 35 mm camera set, circa 1982, in very good condition and tested working, complete with CX-W motor winder, CX-11 flash, batteries and original storage box.
Description from the seller
Offered from a private collection: a rare, complete Praktica / Cosina camera set consisting of a compact camera, motor winder, flash, wrist strap, batteries and original storage box.
The set is in very nice and fully functional condition. The camera has been hardly used, the winder and flash are in new condition.
The Praktica CX-2 is a compact 35mm camera from 1982, which is effectively an exact, licensed brand variant of the legendary Japanese Cosina CX-2. This compact camera is mainly known in the photography world as the direct inspiration and blueprint for the famous Soviet LOMO LC-A.
Key features:
Unique design: Instead of a sliding cover (like the Olympus XA), the camera has a rotating front lens protector that also opens the viewfinder and turns the power on.
Lens: Equipped with a sharp Cosmos Cosina 35mm f/2.8 lens.
Exposure: Auto mode: Shutter and aperture operate completely automatically via an built-in CdS cell. Shutter speeds automatically range from 1/500 second up to 30 seconds.
Focusing: Uses zone focusing (manually set to distance symbols: portrait, group or landscape).
Flash mode: Manual aperture choice where the shutter automatically sets to 1/45th (or 1/60th) of a second.
Original accessories:
Praktica CX-W: A compact automatic motor winder that screws under the camera and runs on AA batteries.
Praktica CX-11: A dedicated mounted flash.
Historical value: Although the East German brand Praktica (Pentacon) was best known for heavy, mechanical SLRs, this CX-2 is a rarer foray into the compact segment via Japanese import. Because the Soviet Union later used the Cosina/Praktica CX-2 as the exact basis to design the LOMO LC-A, this model is by enthusiasts also called the 'proto-Lomo'. The lens on the CX-2 generally performs optically a touch sharper and has less extreme vignetting than the later Lomo copy.
Film format: 35 mm ("small image"); 36 frames of 24 x 36 mm.
Dimensions of the camera (without winder and flash): 11 x 7 x 4 cm
Weight: 230 grams.
The camera set is delivered complete with batteries and will be carefully packed, sent by registered mail, insured and traceable.
