Description from the seller
This statue is a classic example of decorative arts ceramics, Italian manufacture in the style of Bassano or of the famous pieces dating back to the mid-20th century (the 60s/70s).
Here is a detailed description divided into key points:
1. Subject and Pose
The sculpture depicts a leopard seated on its hind legs. The animal is portrayed in an aggressive or warning stance: the mouth is open in a roar, showing the teeth, pronounced fangs and the tongue. The gaze is directed slightly upward, conferring a proud and dynamic presence.
2. Colors and Decoration
The piece stands out for an unusual and stylized coloration:
Base color: The body is not in the classic yellow-gold, but shows a shade ranging from cream white to pink/mauve (especially visible on the muzzle, chest, and along the back).
Spots: The spots are deep black, distributed irregularly but harmoniously. On the face they are small dots, while on the body they become larger and oval, imitating the natural pattern of the feline.
Eyes: A striking detail is the color of the eyes, an acid-green/yellowish-green very vivid, contrasting with the pinkish tones of the muzzle.
3. Material and Finish
Material: Glazed ceramic
Finish: The surface features a very glossy glaze that is highly reflective, which enhances the sculpture’s curves and gives it a luxurious and "pop" appearance.
4. Style and Placement
This type of giant sculptures (often called "Hollywood Regency" or "Mid-Century Modern") were iconic pieces for entrances to villas or elegant living rooms between the 60s and 80s. Today they are highly sought-after collectibles for maximalist or vintage interiors.
