Dimensions: 64 x 53 x 53 cm.
Exceptional small gueridón or occasional table of Chinese origin, in ebonized and carved wood, with an inlaid marble top, circa 1900, Qing Dynasty. It can also be used as a stand or plinth for pots or a featured piece.
An example of elegant Chinese decorative furniture from the Qing Dynasty, highly valued both in China and in exports to the West. It rests on five slender cabriole legs that end in delicate scroll feet. They are joined by a pierced lower trellis. At the top, just beneath the top panel, intricate pierced panels with vegetal motifs, hand-carved, connect the legs. This type of open carving is characteristic of Chinese furniture. The reddish marble with light veining stands out.
The Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) was the last imperial dynasty of China, ruled by the Manchus, an ethnic group originating in northeast China. This dynasty played a fundamental role in Chinese history, marking a period of great territorial expansion, cultural exchanges, and also internal and external challenges that ultimately led to the end of the imperial system.
