Description from the seller
The Saint-Louis Sapho model is a timeless classic, a sublime example of late 19th and early 20th century French elegance. Its distinctive feature is the garland-and-bow engraving, which evokes the Louis XVI style with an almost ethereal delicacy.
Set of 8 Saint-Louis Glasses – Model "Sapho" (Period 1900)
Splendid and elegant set of clear crystal glasses, produced by the prestigious French manufactory Saint-Louis, the oldest crystal in Europe and supplier to the royal household.
The Sapho model is famous for its refined acid-etched decoration. The cup features a delicate garland of flowers and leaves, supported by scenographic neoclassical bows (ribbons). The stem is smooth and slender, ending in a circular foot that ensures perfect balance and harmony in the proportions.
Main Features
Manufacture: Saint-Louis (France).
Model: Sapho.
Production period: Early 20th century (c. 1900-1930).
Material: Highest quality sound crystal, renowned for its transparency and brilliance.
Technique: Acid engraving with very fine burin details.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The crystal retains all its original luster.
These glasses are not merely tumblers, but works of art that bring to the table the history of French savoir-faire. Perfect for a luxurious mise en place or to enrich a display of antique crystal. Their rarity and the signature of one of the world’s most prestigious Maisons also make them a great investment.
Note: Since these pieces were produced before 1936, the glasses may not bear the Saint-Louis acid mark (introduced later), but the model is widely documented in the manufacturer’s historical catalogs.
Height: 15 cm
Diameter of opening: 6.5 cm
Diameter of base: 6.5 cm.
