Description from the seller
Mid-20th Century French Studio Pottery Vase – Signed Artisan Ceramic with Naturalistic Glaze
This elegant studio pottery vase beautifully reflects the character and individuality of mid-20th century French ceramic craftsmanship. With its refined silhouette and organic glaze combining earthy browns, ochre tones, and soft turquoise hues, the piece possesses a natural, almost landscape-like appearance that makes it a striking decorative object.
Created in France during the mid-20th century by an unidentified studio potter, the vase bears a hand-incised signature on the base, confirming its artisanal origin. Although the signature remains difficult to decipher, it clearly attests to an individual maker rather than industrial production, enhancing its appeal for collectors of French studio ceramics.
The form is balanced and elegant, featuring a rounded body that tapers gently into a narrow neck with a slightly flared rim. The glaze presents subtle variations created during firing, with fluid transitions between warm earthy tones and pale turquoise areas that give the surface depth and visual richness. These natural effects are typical of high-temperature studio pottery and make each piece unique.
Crafted from quality ceramic and finished with a glossy glaze, the vase is both decorative and functional. The interior is glazed, allowing it to be used as a flower vase or as a sculptural decorative object.
Dimensions:
Height: 32 cm (12.6 in)
Diameter: approx. 15 cm (5.9 in)
Condition: Good vintage condition with minor firing irregularities typical of handmade pottery, contributing to its authentic character.
A charming and collectible example of French mid-century studio pottery, ideal for collectors and lovers of unique handcrafted ceramic art.
