MG A Roadster Mk1, 1960.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

About the owner:

"For more than 56 years I’ve been behind the wheel in racing. And counting karting, even well over 60 years with rubber on asphalt. In that time I have made more than 1800 starts and driven more than 1050 race weekends. From pedal car to Formula 1, and basically everything in between.

And I still happily step into a race car, this year again in the NASCAR Euro Series.

Besides racing, another passion developed over the years: collecting classic cars. Cars with a story to tell. Many of these vehicles come from the 1950s and 1960s, a period in which I myself drove or was closely involved. They are cars that evoke memories of circuits, of eras, and of a different way of racing.

My interest never only went to the well-known or exclusive models. It is precisely the variety I find beautiful. From a simple runabout to Jaguars and all sorts of other brands, each with its own character and history.

I have owned many of these cars for 30 to even 40 years. They have become part of my life and my story. That’s why it’s hard for me to part with them.

But there comes a moment when you pass on the baton. And what makes classic cars so special is that they not only bring pleasure and history but also unforgettable moments.

I hope the next owners will have as much pleasure, appreciation, and passion for them as I have all these years."

- 40 years in the current owner’s possession

History and Background: The MG A Roadster Mk1

The MG A marked a radical break with the pre-war styling of its predecessors, the T-series, at its introduction in the fifties. With its streamlined, low body and elegant lines, the MG A immediately became an icon of style and a commercial success, especially in North America. The Mk1 is known for its pure driving experience: an unfiltered connection to the road, direct steering, and the quintessential British sports car experience. As one of the most beloved classic roadsters in the world, the MG A remains a symbol of freedom and driving pleasure. This 1960 example offers an excellent opportunity to acquire a fun and good MGA without a reserve price.

GENERAL

The vehicle is in good overall condition. There are visible signs of use and general aging consistent with a classic more than sixty years old. The combination of a very neat exterior and a fair technical base makes this an attractive object for the active driver or the collector.

BODYWORK & PAINTWORK

The bodywork and paint are in very good condition and present themselves excellently. Only minimal signs of wear are visible, such as light stone chipping, small scratches, or paint damage. In the past there has been very limited and skilled conventional painting or sheet metal work performed to safeguard the visual quality of the roadster. The chrome work including the wire wheels are in neat condition. The fabric top is in good condition and closes well.

TECHNICS

Under the gently sloping hood lies the reliable B-Series four-cylinder engine that gives the MG A its lively character. Mechanically, the vehicle is healthy and solid. As is usual with British sports cars from this period, regular technical maintenance and possible repairs should be anticipated to keep mechanical reliability and performance in optimal state.

INTERIOR

The open interior is in a very neat and clean condition with minimal signs of wear. The interior exudes the atmosphere of the early 1960s and is remarkably well preserved. Depending on individual standards, some small missing or defective interior parts can be replaced, but the overall look is of a high level.

CHASSIS & UNDERSIDE

The structural basis of the frame is solid. The underside shows normal signs of use and some light surface rust on the structural surfaces. Although the base is solid, the bottom could use some attention and conservation over time to consolidate the structural integrity of this icon for the future.

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
