Ancient Egyptian Openwork Plaque for Thutmose III

This is an interesting and open-worked glazed steatite plaque for Thutmose III. The plaque inscribed on the open-worked side with motif of recumbent sphinx, “Men-Kheper-Re“ (Tuthmose III) in a cartouche in front, and title „lord of the two lands“ in hieroglyphs above. On the other side an image of king throned and in front “Tuthmose III, image of Amun, lord of the two lands“ in hieroglyphs.

Date: Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, circa 1450 B.C.
Material: glazed steatite
Size: ca. 1,45 cm
Condition: intact
Provenance: private French collection (Paris), formed before 1980.
