Description from the seller

About the owner:

"For more than 56 years I’ve been behind the wheel in motorsport. And when I include karting, that’s well over 60 years with rubber on asphalt. During that time I’ve started more than 1,800 races and driven over 1,050 race weekends. From pedal go-karts to Formula 1, and basically everything in between.

And I still happily climb into a race car; this year, even in the NASCAR Euro Series again.

Alongside racing, another passion has developed over the years: collecting classical cars. Cars with a story to tell. Many of these vehicles come from the 1950s and 1960s, a period when I was racing myself or closely involved. They are cars that bring back memories of circuits, eras, and a different way of racing.

My interest was never limited to the well-known or exclusive models. It’s the variety that I find beautiful. From a simple runabout to Jaguars and a wide range of other brands, each with its own character and history.

Many of these cars I have owned for 30 to even 40 years. They have become part of my life and my story. That’s why it’s hard for me to let go of them.

But every thing has its moment when you pass the baton. And what makes classic cars so special is that they offer not only pleasure and history but also unforgettable moments.

I hope the next owners will derive as much pleasure, appreciation, and passion from them as I have over the years."

Volkswagen - Type 2 - 1975

- 8 years in the current owner’s possession.

History and Background: The Volkswagen Type 2 (T2)

The Volkswagen Type 2, better known as the T2 or the "Panoramabus", is one of the most recognizable vehicles in the world. As the successor to the legendary T1, the T2 in the seventies brought more comfort, better driving characteristics, and larger windows for improved visibility. In 1975 the T2 was at the height of its practical usability, loved by both adventurers and entrepreneurs. Whether it’s a functional classic or a base for a camper adventure, the T2 remains a symbol of freedom and uncomplicated technology. This exemplar offers an excellent opportunity to acquire an icon in very healthy condition without reserve price.

GENERAL

This vehicle is in very good overall condition with only minimal signs of use. While the exterior requires light attention, the structural and technical foundation of this Volkswagen has been remarkably well preserved, making this a unique lot for both the driver and the collector.

BODYWORK & PAINT

The bodywork and paint are in good condition but show signs of aging and use. Depending on the desired optical standard, the bus may in time benefit from light conventional painting or sheet metal work. Replacing specific exterior parts may also be desirable to bring the bus back to a flawless state. Overall, the bus presents beautifully with an attractive color scheme.

TECHNICS

Mechanically, this T2 is very sound and healthy. The air-cooled flat-four engine runs as it should, and the drive train is technically solid. The car is ready to use immediately, though a small service may be advisable to optimize the reliability of the engineering for long trips in the future.

INTERIOR

The interior is in very neat and clean condition. The cabin and passenger area show minimal wear, reflecting careful use over the years. Depending on personal preference, some minor missing or defective parts could be replaced, but the overall interior presentation is of a very high standard.

CHASSIS & UNDERCARRIAGE

The structural base of the bus is very good. The frame and underside are in excellent preserved condition with only minimal signs of use. This is a crucial plus for a Volkswagen from this era; the solid floor and structure make this exemplar a very durable investment.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
