Antique hand-carved walnut wood cimasa in good used condition with age-related marks, dating to 1850–1900, featuring a central painted medallion in a gilded frame and Toscano neoclassical styling, measuring 22 cm wide, 52 cm high and 2.3 cm deep.
Description from the seller
Elegant decorative wooden carved element, attributable to the Florentine artistic sphere. The crest presents a balanced composition with volutes, foliate motifs and architectural elements, typical of the Tuscan decorative tradition between late Baroque and Neoclassical taste.
In the center is inserted a painted medallion with a female profile, enclosed in a gilded frame. The image, in its setting and hairstyle, recalls the iconography of female figures of classical antiquity, evoking the representation of a goddess or mythical figure, in line with the Neoclassical taste that in the 18th and 19th centuries rediscovered the art of ancient Greece and Rome.
The carving is entirely handmade, with workmanship clearly visible in the details of the volutes and leaves. The surface preserves an antique patina and traces of the original finishes, elements that contribute to the object's authentic charm.
The back shows the original wooden structure, with signs of workmanship and period fittings, confirming the authenticity of the decorative element.
These crests were used to embellish important frames, dressers or interior architectural elements, often in noble houses or historic palaces.
Provenance: Florentine area, Italy
Material: carved and painted wood
Decoration: medallion with classical-style female profile (goddess / mythical figure)
Dimensions: about 50 cm wide
A refined antique decorative element that combines ornamental carving and painting in a classical taste, ideal for collectors and enthusiasts of Italian art and historic furnishings.
