Description from the seller
No reserve price
The "Masque de femme" ring in one of its versions most valued for its unisex design (low-relief carving set in a sterling silver mount). It is one of the most famous and well-known motifs of the Lalique Maison (a representation of the nymph Arethuse, surrounded by marine life), and with it a wide variety of pieces have been made.
Arethuse (or Aretusa) is a nymph from Greek mythology. It is said that Alpheus fell hopelessly in love with her, which led, at a certain moment, and in a desperate attempt to escape the god’s advances, her transformation into a stream of water during the pursuit. When she was completely cornered, Arethuse directed her course under the sea and appeared on the island of Ortigia, generating the spring that bears her name, near Syracuse. Still desiring to materialize his love, the river Alpheus has since mixed its waters with those of the Arethuse spring. This spring and the nymph are revered, even today, by the locals.
Lalique is regarded as one of the best brands in glass and crystal production worldwide. Through the contrast between transparency and satin finish, the maximum expression of crystal purity is achieved, creating the well-known "Lalique effect," as seen in this piece.
The ring shows minimal signs of use in the silver structure, with the crystal intact (to assess its condition please examine the photographs carefully, they are part of the description). Size 55 (15).
It comes in a jewelry box. It will be carefully packaged.
Insured shipping. Possible customs duties or other additional charges imposed by respective countries will be at the buyer’s expense.
In my profile I have more jewelry up for auction at the moment: Lalique, Baccarat... All my lots are offered with the possibility of combined shipping.
