Antique French Wall Sconce with Enamel Plaque – HB & Cie Choisy-le-Roi – 19th Century
Elegant antique French wall sconce featuring an oval hand-painted enamel plaque mounted in an ornate gilt bronze frame with three candle holders.
The central plaque depicts a finely detailed historical figure in Renaissance-style clothing standing in an interior setting with a geometric floor pattern. The plaque is attributed to the renowned French manufacture HB & Cie (Hippolyte Boulenger & Cie), Choisy-le-Roi, active during the 19th century.
The decorative bronze mount is richly cast in a Louis XVI / Rococo revival style with ribbon motifs and scrolling arms supporting three candle holders. According to the accompanying note, the back is signed HB & Cie Choisy-le-Roi, and the bronze mount bears a TJ monogram underneath.
This piece was reportedly acquired in Haarlem and dates from approximately the mid to late 19th century (circa 1830–1880).
A rare and decorative antique combining fine French enamel work with elegant bronze craftsmanship.
Condition: good antique condition with minor wear consistent with age.
