Empire-style portico clock dating to 1850–1900, in white marble with finely chiseled bronze details and four marble columns, a mechanical movement with a Swiss replacement, half-hour strike on a gong, winding key included, dimensions 41 × 24 × 11 cm, weight 5.3 kg, made in France, in excellent condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
Empire-style carriage clock in white marble, supported by four cylindrical marble columns, terminating in finely chased bronze capitals and bases. The whole adopts the classical architecture of portico clocks inspired by Antiquity, a hallmark of the early 19th century Empire style.
The circular white enamel dial with black tree-like numerals is signed "Chardon à Paris" and is surrounded by a gilded bronze bezel with a pearl-dot decoration (glass is missing). It features two winding holes for the movement and the striking mechanism. The hands, openwork in gilded bronze, display an elegant vegetal pattern.
The clock is topped by an antique bronze gilded vase with finely worked handles resting on a marble plinth, a motif typical of the neoclassical taste of the period. Under the dial, a foliate decoration in gilded bronze extends, supporting a sun wheel balance adorned with a radiating mask, visible between the columns.
The portico is antique, but the mechanical movement was later replaced by a Swiss movement, allowing reliable operation of the clock today.
This clock combines the elegance of an ancient Empire portico in marble and gilded bronze with the reliability of a more recent Swiss mechanical movement, making it both a beautiful decorative piece and a clock ready to use.
Very good overall condition, marble clean, bronzes well preserved with a beautiful patina, movement functional, delivered with a winding key, see the photos as they are part of the description.
