Jan Jans was born on January 6, 1872 in Amsterdam.
Lived his entire life in the capital and received drawing instruction there from Jan Visser Jr. (1856-1938).
Initially he worked as a house and decorative painter, but from around 1907 he established himself as an artist-painter.
He painted in the style of the Hague School, including landscapes, river scenes and harbors.
Jan Jans was a member in Amsterdam of St. Lucas (1910-1925) and of De Onafhankelijken.
Much of his work was sold abroad, e.g. to Buenos Aires, where he participated in an exhibition in 1932.
He died on October 27, 1943 in the capital city.
