Jean Levasseur (1935–2024), a French figurative painter from Le Havre, dedicated his life to celebrating the beauty of maritime landscapes. With a vivid palette and a warm touch, he captured the changing light of the Normandy coasts, from Le Havre’s quays to the beaches of Deauville.
Based in the countryside but always oriented toward the sea, he painted the shores as one recalls a memory: with sincerity, poetry, and a deep connection to the natural elements. His canvases tell of daily life at the water’s edge, shifting skies and untamed tides.
Disappeared in April 2024 at the age of 89, Jean Levasseur leaves behind a sensitive and luminous body of work, praised by maritime art enthusiasts for its authenticity and expressive strength.
