Large Apparatus Serving Spoon in 833 Sterling Silver –
Description of the object
Magnificent Victorian-era serving spoon in solid silver (833/1000).
The Summit (Freinte): A complex figurative motif depicting a figure (sailor/captain) standing aboard a galion-type ship, with all sails set.
The Handle: An elegant twisted stem connected to the spoon bowl by an ornate attachment featuring mascarons and Baroque motifs.
Origin: Made in continental Europe (Hanau/Dutch style) and imported to the United Kingdom. The presence of the 'F' (Foreign) hallmark makes it a piece of great interest for international silver collectors.
Hallmarks (perfectly identified)
S.B.L: Master silversmith / Importer Samuel Boyce Landeck.
Dutch Lion Passant: Guarantee of 833 solid silver.
