Description from the seller

Painted mural box – Eastern European folk art – Late 19th century / early 20th century

Rare solid wood wall cabinet, hand-decorated with multicolored geometric motifs typical of Central European folk art, probably Hungarian or Transylvanian.

The façade features a rich painted decoration structured in registers: concentric friezes, symbolic circular motifs, and finely drawn geometric frames. The color palette (deep red, ochre yellow, green, blue and black) is characteristic of rural productions from the late 19th century.

The central door is equipped with its old locking system including a wooden bolt and an artisanal metal chain.

Overall, it exudes strong authenticity and marked ethnographic charm.

Characteristics

Origin: Eastern Europe (probably Hungary / Transylvania)
Period: late 19th – early 20th century
Material: solid wood, painted
Decoration: handmade polychrome painting
Manufacture: rural / artisanal
