Antique solid oak chest with wrought iron fittings
Rectangular chest in solid oak, probably early 20th century, rustic or domestic travel style. Traditional mortise-and-tenon construction, lid with visible hinges, blackened wrought iron fittings (reinforced corners with riveted triangular brackets, central arched front handle, pivoting hasp latch). Unfinished raw interior, traces of old use visible on the bottom. Provenance: private Belgian collection.
Condition: very good for its age, sound wood without structural cracks or wormholes, no major warping or breaks, fittings intact with no active rust (natural patina and superficial oxidation typical), lid closes properly without excessive play, surfaces with signs of wear, old scratches, handling marks and a uniform dark patina, no recent restoration visible or glueing.
