The two-part Dutch electric train set Plan V – in the Netherlands better known as Mat '64 or under the nickname Apekop (monkey head) – became from the mid-1960s one of the standard commuter trains of the Dutch Railways (NS). With a total of 246 units, it was at the time the most-built train set for NS. Of the V3 series, the Plan V also featured the new NS color scheme: bright yellow with gray details at the front and three blue diagonal stripes on both sides of the car. Before they were withdrawn from service, the train sets were used on almost all electrified railway lines in the Netherlands.
