The
Ferrari 308 GTS is one of the most recognizable icons of the Prancing Horse, produced between 1977 and 1985. It became a pop culture myth thanks to the TV series Magnum, P.I., representing the removable roof variant (Targa) of the 308 GTB.
Evolution of the Model
The 308 series saw three main phases of mechanical development:

- 308 GTS (1977-1980): The original carbureted version (four Weber 40 DCNF). It delivered about 255 HP (in European specification) and used a steel body with an aluminum hood.
- 308 GTSi (1980-1982): Introduced to comply with anti-pollution regulations, it replaced carburetors with Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection. This led to a power drop to 214 HP, making it the least performing version of the series.
- 308 GTS Quattrovalvole (1982-1985): To recover lost performance, Ferrari equipped the engine with four-valve-per-cylinder heads. Power rose to 240 HP, significantly improving acceleration (0-100 km/h in about 6.2 seconds).

Main Technical Features

- Engine: 2.9-liter V8 (2927 cc) transversely mounted in mid-position.
- Chassis: Steel tubular frame, reinforced compared to the GTB version to compensate for the absence of the fixed roof.
- Design: Signed by Leonardo Fioravanti for Pininfarina, distinguished by the flowing lines that defined Ferrari styling for over a decade.
- Curiosity: Unlike the first GTB series, there was never a GTS version with fiberglass bodywork ("Vetroresina").
