Description from the seller
Vintage 1960s ESSO sign in plexiglass with thermoforged letters
Magnificent original ESSO sign dating from the 1960s, a genuine piece of industrial archaeology with strong visual impact for display and collection. Made in translucent plexiglass, it features the iconic red ESSO letters enclosed in the classic blue oval, both fully raised with a substantial thickness of about 1 cm, a rare detail that adds depth, three-dimensionality, and an extraordinary visual presence.
The craftsmanship is the traditional method known as “thermoforging”: the letters are not simply applied, but molded directly into the material with heat, creating smooth, bulging surfaces that are perfectly integrated into the structure. This technique, today almost disappeared, is typical of professional signs from mid-20th century and gives the object an even greater historical value.
The overall result is harmonious and elegant, with the milky white background highlighting the logo’s vivid colors, still surprisingly bright after decades. The translucent plexiglass allows, with minimal effort, to easily transform the sign into a splendid lighted sign: just place a light source on the back to achieve an authentically vintage dramatic effect, capable of recreating the atmosphere of vintage service stations.
Perfect for decorating a loft, upscale garage, showroom, themed venues, or private collections, it is a decorative object of great charm, immediately noticeable and ready to become the absolute centerpiece of any space. A true symbol of automotive culture and postwar advertising design, very, very beautiful, with a bold character and a presence that does not go unnoticed.
