Description from the seller
Gold-capped – steel OMEGA watch with a gold-mark 585 and mark on one of the lugs (see photo)
Caliber 552 1963 with bi-directional winding and an average power reserve of about 50 hours, and is equipped with 24 jewels.
The caliber 552 is known for its reliability and is regarded as the best movement Omega ever produced. Since the watch is a 'De Ville' with a so-called monocoque version (unishell), i.e., you can only access the movement by removing the Hes talite glass. As I do not have the proper tools (a glass press) to remove the acrylic glass, I have conducted further research with the help of AI. (The 8-digit serial number and the identification number are located on the movement itself and inside the case parts.) These are inaccessible to me without damage and must be performed by a specialized watchmaker.
This OMEGA watch is lightly worn and still in its original condition. It even still has the nearly invisible, hidden OMEGA logo on the inside of the Hes talite glass! Experts call that the “easter egg.” (with Easter if you look carefully you’ll find the egg) This Easter-egg stamp was deliberately placed by OMEGA on the inside to prevent wear from polishing and wear. (very unique!) It sits exactly in the middle above the axis of the hands and may be slightly rotated due to twisting during production around 1960. (see my photo with the red circle.) On most watches from that era, after service an aftermarket glass has been installed, so this is still very rare to see. There is also an original OMEGA authenticity mark on the crown.
This OMEGA watch with an original still-stamped and entirely clear Hes talite glass has a high collectible value, especially due to the non-patinated and non-oxidized SUNBURST dial. I especially point out the solid gold inlaid indices set with Onix and the gold hands also inlaid with black Onix.
Naturally there are micro-scratches and the glass has a slight nick at the edge near the 2 o’clock index, but after 63 years we must accept that. The strap is Gold Rolled but not original (see photo).
In summary: The strap may not appeal to everyone, but the golden watch is in good collectible condition for its age, and this SEAMASTER De VILLE version is the most elegant refined execution and is a true “DRESS-WATCH,” appreciated for its minimalist design and the impeccable SUNBURST dial.
Place a good bid on this special piece of technology—a self-winding without date with a clear glass and 100% dial.
The gold watch with strap weighs 46 grams (distributed over the gold upper, metal lower, and the rolled gold strap).
The watch measures 35.5 mm round and 40.4 mm lug-to-lug on the outside.
Shipping will be careful, well-packaged and insured (excluding the pictured box).
