Description from the seller
Sculpture in marble powder depicting Eros.
The Hellenistic-origin work was discovered in 1772 at Centocelle (Rome), from which it takes its name; it is also known as the Eros of Centocelle.
It was purchased by Pope Clement XIV and, consequently, displayed in the Hall of Busts and Statues of the Vatican Museums where it is preserved to this day.
In 1800, for a brief period, the Eros of Centocelle was also exhibited at the Louvre after Napoleon Bonaparte’s acquisition from Pope Pius VI as part of the Treaty of Tolentino.
Professional academic sculpture, entirely handcrafted by professional artisans. A piece from a museum plaster gallery. The craftsmanship has very ancient origins, and is executed entirely by hand by artists in the sculptural sector, made with materials such as scagliola and Carrara marble powder.
Shipping is entrusted to a packaging company (professional packing).
