Jo Novecento – Painter, Sculptor, Stylist, born in the Abruzzo region, Teramo, Italy in 1956
In the 1980s and 1990s he worked with leading figures of the Roman School of San Lorenzo, which positioned itself as an alternative to Transavanguardia. Constantly involved also in fashion, with designs for tailored garments by prestigious houses. In those years he also devoted himself to music, performing at events organized with the band Le Stelle di Schifano.
Existentialist artist, he studies and deepens the abstract expressionism of the first half of the twentieth century; the support becomes a field of gestural yet measured action, vital in the explosion of the broad palette. The compositions diverge from academic classics, are non-figurative, allowing for an intimate, unmediated reception. Ecstasy and tragedy are in balance.
