Pierre ETAIX (1928-2016)
Pierre Etaix, originally from Roanne, a graphic designer by training, was introduced to the art of stained glass by master Théodore-Gérard Hanssen, and he largely built his career around comedy. He settled in Paris where he earned his living from illustration while performing in cabarets and music halls, as well as in the circus with the clown Nino. He met Jacques Tati in 1954, for whom he worked for four years as a designer and gagman in preparing his film Mon Oncle, then as an assistant director on set. He performed with his music-hall number in 1961 in J. Tati's Jour de fête show at the Olympia.
