Description from the seller

Dear Bidders,
Thank you for your interest in my offer.

I'm offering here a Rosenthal “Flash” tableware set – Design by Dorothy Hafner (1980s).

Striking and highly collectible porcelain set from the iconic Flash series by Rosenthal, designed by renowned American artist Dorothy Hafner.
This bold postmodern design embodies the spirit of the 1980s with its dynamic geometric patterns, vibrant color blocks, and playful Memphis-style aesthetic.
Dorothy Hafner was one of the most distinctive designers collaborating with Rosenthal in the late 20th century. An American artist and designer, she became especially prominent during the 1980s, a period defined by bold experimentation and the rise of postmodern design.
Her work is closely associated with the spirit of the Memphis Group—characterized by playful geometry, asymmetry, and vibrant color palettes. Hafner translated these ideas into porcelain, creating pieces that blurred the line between functional tableware and expressive art objects.
Working with Rosenthal, she introduced highly original collections such as the Flash series, which stood out for its graphic patterns, layered shapes, and dynamic visual rhythm. Her designs were considered innovative and unconventional at the time, helping to redefine how everyday objects like tea and coffee sets could look.

Today, Dorothy Hafner’s work is regarded as highly collectible, appreciated both for its artistic value and its representation of 1980s design culture.

A true statement piece and highly collectible example of postmodern porcelain design.
