stile: Victorian

This wonderful pendant features a refined checkboard niello work, in Niello Silver, silver fineness 900, with the corresponding hallmarks.
Niello is an ancient, very elaborate technique that involves creating grooves in the silver, filled with an alloy containing sulfur that is darkened, thus creating bright silver light effects and a darker contrast.
The pendant consists of two oval parts held together by a hinge, and on the opposite side a small notch allows it to open with a snap.
The hallmark is present on both sides.
Inside the pendant are two oval spaces for photos; one of the two spaces might need to be adjusted, but it seems to function nonetheless.
The pendant is in excellent condition for its age and opens and closes perfectly.
Some very light dents and signs of age. The photos should be considered an integral part of the description.
