Textile - 200 cm - 150 cm - Moldavian Heirloom Rug

Authentic Romanian Moldavian Handwoven Scoarță – Family Heirloom – 200 x 150 cm – Mid 20th Century This exceptional handwoven traditional Romanian textile originates from the Moldavia region and has been preserved within the same family for generations, passed down from great-grandmother to grandmother and later inherited as part of a cherished household dowry tradition. Woven entirely by hand on a traditional wooden loom, this piece dates to approximately 1940–1970 and represents authentic rural craftsmanship from North-Eastern Romania. The composition features a striking geometric structure with stylized floral medallions framed by diamond motifs and vertical border bands – a classic Moldavian pattern language symbolizing harmony, continuity and prosperity. The deep green background contrasts beautifully with the warm golden-yellow wool, creating a strong yet elegant decorative presence. Traditionally used as a wall hanging (scoarță) in the main reception room, such textiles were both decorative and symbolic status objects within Romanian households. Materials: • Wool weft (hand-dyed) • Cotton/hemp warp • Handwoven on traditional loom Dimensions: 200 cm x 150 cm Condition: Very good vintage condition. Colors remain vivid and the weave is structurally strong and dense. Minor signs of age consistent with a genuine mid-20th century handmade textile. This is not an industrial reproduction but an authentic heritage piece reflecting Romanian folk art tradition. Its large size makes it increasingly rare on today’s market. A refined collectible textile suitable for: • Ethnographic collectors • Interior designers • Traditional art enthusiasts • Statement wall décor A true heirloom carrying family history and Eastern European cultural heritage.
