Louis XVI antique mirror in gilded wood, dating to the late 19th century, with overall measurements of 99 × 62.5 × 4 cm.
Description from the seller
Stunning Louis XVI-era marriage mirror, carved wood and gold leaf gilding.
The pierced pediment features a finely carved composition: a laurel crown framing an architectural scene, enhanced by a relief bird perched on an altar, a symbol of peace and harmony. The whole is enriched by two elegant acanthus leaf arabesques punctuated by stylized flowers.
The side uprights are adorned with laurel leaves ending in pompons, while acanthus leaves unfold in the lower part of the frame, reinforcing the decorative balance.
The frame is outlined by a beaded frieze and regular moldings characteristic of the Louis XVI style, resting on its original small feet.
The mirror has preserved its antique mercury glass, showing slight pitting and alterations of the backing, witnesses to its authenticity and age.
Condition: generally good, with wear and small losses to the gilding, in keeping with age.
Period: late 18th century (Louis XVI)
Materials: carved wood, gold leaf gilding, mercury mirror
Origin: France
Dimensions: 99 x 62.5 x 4 cm
Deliveries limited to Europe.
