Description from the seller
Goldenwood Louis XVI mirror in carved and gilded wood – France – late 18th / early 19th century
Elegant oval mirror in carved and gilded wood, made in the Louis XVI style, France, late 18th century / early 19th century (circa 1780–1830)
The frame is finely sculpted with the typical neoclassical ribbon at the top, from which laurel garlands descend to enclose the central oval. The bottom is decorated with an additional carved botanical motif that harmoniously completes the composition.
The gilding is original leaf with red bole visible in some spots, a characteristic feature of period gilding. The surface shows a beautiful antique patina, which gives great charm and authenticity to the object.
The mirror preserves the old structure, glass and back panel, with fixings and nailings coherent with production between the late 18th and early 19th century.
This type of mirror was often used as a decorative wall mirror or above a console, and is today highly valued also in contemporary interiors.
Conditions
The mirror is in good overall condition considering its age, with signs of wear consistent with an antique object, visible in the photographs, which are an integral part of the description.
Dimensions
• Height: about 85 cm
• Width: about 40 cm
• Thickness: about 3 cm
A very decorative mirror, ideal for both classic and contemporary settings.
It will be securely packed and shipping insured.
