Rare late 19th‑century mechanical lantern clock with an integrated oil lamp, dating to c. 1880–1900, made in Germany from steel, brass and glass, with a one‑day power reserve, wind‑up mechanism and alarm strike, dimensions 17×13×10 cm, weight 500 g, in good used condition.
Description from the seller
Superb and very rare mechanical alarm with a rotating drum combined with a oil lamp, dating from the late 19th century (around 1880–1900).
This original model combines a time display system via a rotating cylinder with an integrated lamp, offering an object that is simultaneously functional, technical and decorative, typical of Belle Époque inventions.
The base is marked “Breveté”, suggesting a design probably French, while the mechanism is of German origin (“Made in Germany”), renowned for its robustness.
No manufacturer's brand is visible, but this type of production can be associated with German manufacturers of the period such as Junghans or Kienzle, known for supplying movements to many European assemblers.
Functioning
The mechanism operates (audible tick-tock)
The alarm bell works perfectly
The petroleum lamp is complete with its wick
The drum does not seem to rotate (adjustment or service to be planned)
Condition
Good overall condition for a clock/lamps object over 120 years old.
Normal wear and patina related to age
A few base screws have been replaced and are probably not original
Complete and coherent ensemble
Important – Photographs
Some photos showing a light effect inside the drum have been slightly retouched by artificial intelligence to illustrate the possible rendering.
The item is complete with its wick, but the luminous effect shown in these images is not contractual.
Rare model and uncommon on the market
Hybrid object combining horology and lighting
Original and decorative aesthetic
Functional mechanism with operational bell
Typical piece from the end of the 19th century
Shipping
Careful and secure shipping, with appropriate protection for fragile elements.
