Specimen Nautilus pompilius from Indonesia, year 2012, CITES Appendix II – Annex B (EU) import 00000119E of 03/01/2012, in good condition; a two‑item lot comprising a polished, sectioned chambered Nautilus shell with iridescent mother‑of‑pearl.
Description from the seller
Polished Nautilus Shell (Halved Pair) – Iridescent Mother-of-Pearl with Natural Chambers
A beautifully preserved nautilus shell, expertly sectioned into two matching halves to reveal its remarkable internal chamber structure, naturally following the golden ratio. Each half offers a clear and harmonious view of the spiral geometry that makes this specimen so iconic.
The exterior has been finely polished, displaying spectacular iridescent reflections with shifting tones of pink, green, gold, and blue across the mother-of-pearl surface. These natural colors become especially vivid under changing light, giving the piece a luminous and dynamic presence.
Inside, the chambers are cleanly defined and well preserved. Minor, very small losses to some internal edges are present—as visible in the photos—due to the natural fragility of the shell, but they remain minimal and do not affect the overall aesthetic or structural integrity.
The two halves are well balanced and can be displayed together or separately, making them ideal for collectors, design interiors, or educational purposes.
Dimensions:
Left: 16.1 × 12.7 × 4.2 cm
Right: 16.1 × 12.6 × 4.1 cm
A refined and visually striking natural specimen, combining mathematical beauty, organic form, and exceptional nacreous iridescence.
Attention bidders from outside EU: This lot requires specific cites custom clearance procedures to be shipped outside Italy and then imported in your Country. We strongly discourage bidders from outside the European Union to make offers.
