AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Very interesting and precious collection of "papere" (5 pieces), consisting of tips of water buffalo horn, coming from Indonesia, completely carved by hand.

The bovine horn used in Indonesia, and also in Thailand, is a natural raw material that does not involve the animal's killing for this purpose, being a by-product of slaughter, or of trimming only the tip, to prevent the animals from injuring other bovines or humans, as many of these are used daily to plow fields and rice paddies.

Its plastic nature allows it to be shaped with heat and carved with precision.
The tips, being fuller, are often used for minute details, while the hollow parts are used for hollow objects.

Interesting is the processing that exploits the light and dark tones of the horn surface (dark exterior and slightly lighter just below).
