Description from the seller
A fine Russian lacquer box, hand-painted in traditional style, depicting a lively troika (three-horse sleigh) scene in a winter landscape. The composition captures movement and narrative, with richly decorated horses, figures, and village elements in the background.
The piece is executed on a black lacquer base with gold ornamental borders and characteristic snow-effect detailing, typical for lacquer work from the Soviet period. The elongated shape is less common and enhances its decorative appeal.
Signed in Cyrillic (partially legible), indicating workshop production.
This box can be attributed to the Kholui style, known for its expressive compositions and decorative approach, distinct from the finer detailing seen in Palekh works.
Condition: good overall condition with minor signs of use consistent with age. No major damage.
• Length: approx. 20 cm
• Width: approx. 4–5 cm
• Material: papier-mâché with lacquer
• Origin: USSR
• Period: 1970s–1980s
