Description from the seller
Vase « Bagatelle » – René Lalique, 1939
Référence Marcilhac : 10‑936
Created in 1939 by René Lalique, the vase « Bagatelle » is one of the most refined models of his late Art Deco period. It is molded in satin and transparent glass (often patinaed blue, sepia or turquoise depending on the specimen) and adorned with a relief pattern combining birds in flight and architectural foliage, in a natural and orderly rhythm.
The motif is in relief along the entire cylindrical body of the vase, alternating satin surfaces and light areas to reinforce contrast and visual depth. The birds, stylized yet expressive, seem animated in an organic composition that suggests a suspended moment in nature.
The piece is signed “Lalique France” engraved under the base, in keeping with pieces produced before 1945. It appears in Félix Marcilhac’s Catalogue Raisonné (Éditions de l’Amateur, Paris) under reference 10‑936, illustrated on the corresponding page.
Condition and authenticity
This exemplar presented is in excellent overall condition, with no chips or visible cracks. The glass shows some micro-scratches under the base related to contact with surfaces and tiny traces of limescale, but they are absolutely discreet and do not detract from the object's aesthetics or value.
Dimensions
Height: 17 cm
Diameter: 12
An emblematic vase
The Bagatelle vase fully embodies the spirit of Lalique’s late Art Deco style: sobriety, stylized naturalism, the quality of the glass engraving, and finesse in the satin/transparent transitions. The motif of foliage and birds evokes a miniature landscape suspended within the crystal.
Suitable for central table display, on an occasional piece of furniture, or in a display case, this vase attracts with its calm yet assertive presence. Collectors and Art Deco enthusiasts will recognize in it a piece both refined and emblematic of René Lalique’s body of work.
The images are part of the description. Insured shipping and pickup point if possible. Shipments are costly; you share in part of these costs.
