Roman silver surgical / medical scalpel. The grip is decorated with concentric lines and cirle-dots. The scalpel blade has two small perforations.
-> The small paired perforations near the blade were likely functional features, used to secure fine threads, ligatures, or organic materials during delicate procedures. They may also have helped improve grip and control by reducing weight and preventing fluid build-up. Such details reflect the practical and specialised design of Roman medical instruments.
Length: ± 101,7 mm

Material:
This object has been carefully examined for its material and surface characteristics.
Laboratory analysis (e.g. XRF) is not routinely undertaken in private collecting, and destructive testing is avoided as it causes permanent damage to archaeological material.
Before modern hallmarking, gold and silver alloys varied depending on local resources, recycling practices and economic conditions.
