Description from the seller
Set of two porcelain cup and saucer sets – Rose Canton, China, late 19th century
A refined set of two cup-and-saucer combinations executed in porcelain in the characteristic Rose Canton style, originating from China and dating from the end of the 19th century. The set is richly decorated with a vibrant and colorful palette, with pink, green and blue predominating.
The decoration consists of exuberant floral motifs, fruits and birds, carefully applied and typical for Canton porcelain that was exported to Europe in large numbers during this period. The combination of dense decoration and fine detailing gives the whole a playful yet refined appearance.
Rose Canton dinnerware was particularly popular for its decorative richness and was often used during tea and coffee moments, where functionality and aesthetics went hand in hand. This set makes a fine example of that: elegant, colorful, and representative of Chinese export art from the late 19th century.
