Chinese bronze censer with figures – 20th century A finely cast Chinese bronze censer of tripod form, richly decorated in relief with scenes of scholars and sages in a mountainous landscape. The body is surrounded by detailed figural panels depicting wise men in traditional robes, accompanied by symbolic elements such as rocks, trees and flowing forms, reflecting Daoist and scholarly themes. The censer stands on four sturdy legs, each decorated with stylised mask motifs. The two upright handles and the archaistic band below the rim refer to much earlier ritual bronze forms. The bronze has developed a beautiful, deep brown patina with visible age and use. The interior shows expected wear consistent with use as an incense burner. Good overall condition with normal wear, surface marks and patina consistent with age and use. No damages. Height: 17.5 cm Width: 15 cm
