Dark Icons Series
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of Contemporary Images
A multidisciplinary photographer, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to shop mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later attracted by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a disturbing, almost lifelike presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new body of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of micro visual fragments generated with current graphic tools, then selected, structured and carefully recomposed by the artist. From afar, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture composed of thousands of subtly interwoven elements. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a balance sought between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the fabrication of contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and singular work.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with integrated rear mounting. Printed on luminous white vinyl, bonded between two aluminum plates, with a soft anti-UV and anti-humidity lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term resistance, color stability and a modern, contemporary finish.
Path
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops authorial and musical work including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a comic book, a photography book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the band FRENZY.
