David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary imagery
Multidisciplinary photographer and visual artist, author and musician, David Law develops a body of work focused on the gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series devoted to shop window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle game of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Then drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate subjects acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Contemporary photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new body of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of microvisual fragments generated using current graphic tools, then carefully selected, structured and recombined by the artist. From afar, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture made up of thousands of elements subtly intertwined. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a balance sought between fragmentation and unity, a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the making of the contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and singular work.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Prints are produced on aluminum with an integrated rear hanger. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum panels, with soft UV- and moisture-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term color stability and a modern, contemporary finish.
Career
Since 2014, David Law participates in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Alongside his visual work, he develops an authorial and musician career including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. As a singer-guitarist, he is currently performing with the band FRENZY.
