Biography:
Artiste-Ouvrier, a French painter and urban artist, has specialized in creating works using stencils and aerosol spray since 2000. He often applies his art on walls, but also on various supports such as vinyls and wooden panels.
His career began in 1993 with stencil painting, but it was in 2000 that he chose to devote himself fully to it, adopting the name “Artiste-Ouvrier.” Three years later, he organized, in collaboration with Spliff Gâchette, the event “Internationale Pochoiriste” in Nogent-sur-Marne. This event involved the joint creation of a 69-meter mural with participants including Yseult, Epsylon Point, among others.
Artiste-Ouvrier engages in several legal initiatives in the field of urban painting. Among these, the Stencil Project in 2004 gathered eminent figures of Paris street art, such as Blek le Rat and Jef Aérosol. In 2005, he exhibited during “Section Urbaine” at the Marché des Blancs-Manteaux in Paris, alongside artists such as Ernest Pignon-Ernest, Speedy Graphito and others.
His stencil skills attracted Is Bach, future Js of JanaundJs, and 6lex, who wished to learn from him. This collaboration marked the birth of the WCA, the Working Class Artists, which would later become WCA-ASA, or “Altona Stencil Art.” At that time, he traveled to Hamburg and welcomed new members into the collective, including Jana, future member of JanaundJs.
In 2008, he participated in the annual Lézarts de la Bièvre event in Paris and was invited to London by Banksy for the Cans festival, where he mingled with renowned artists such as the Portuguese Vhils.
Artiste-Ouvrier’s works are distinguished by their high level of detail and their frequent use of color. His technique, which uses only two stencils but can involve up to 48 colors, is remarkable, especially in his representations of religious spaces such as Amiens Cathedral.
His style is heavily influenced by 19th-century painting, particularly the Pre-Raphaelite movement.
