Description from the seller
Triumph Perfekt 1940: A Survivor at the Heart of Conflict – Export Edition
The Allure of an International Story
In the midst of 1940, as Europe trembled with the winds of war, in the Triumph-Werke Nürnberg workshops this piece of extraordinary mechanical beauty was forged. Not a common “Perfekt,” but a rare export variant: it bears the proud inscription “Importé d'Allemagne” and is fitted with an AZERTY keyboard, a sign of a destiny tied to the Francophone markets of the era.
The Mystery of the Serial Number: A Piece “Out of Registry”
What makes this example a true museum piece is its serial number: 414165. Official historical records (such as the Typewriter Database) place the start of production as known for the year 1941 from number 416,125. Our machine, with an earlier numbering, positions itself as one of the last units produced in the heart of 1940, making it an exceptionally rare testimony of German civil production before the total conversion to war effort.
Mechanical Soul and Patina of Time
Despite the 84 years that have passed, the soul of this Triumph still beats with the precision of a Swiss watch.
The Writing: The lead characters, surprisingly bright and free of crust, produce a sharp and perfectly aligned Pica font (as demonstrated by the attached writing test). Photo 43
The Movement: The keys respond with a snappy return, the carriage glides as if it had just left the factory, and the end-of-line bell crystal still rings with a clear tone.
The Aesthetics: The deep black metal body retains its original luster. A thin, elegant crack on the upper frame (photo 28) and the presence of only the wooden base of the original case are not defects, but “war scars” that give the object a personality and authenticity no restored machine can ever have.
